A little of both. Bush's father believed that atheists do not deserve to have American citizenship so there is a christian influence on his decisions, however, he is first and foremost a politician who will play any card to get themselves what they want and for him that meant courting the extreme conservative right.

I believe it has all been lip service for the vote. Bush is an idiot, and chaney is evil. They make me embarassed to be american. I eagerly await the election of a lesser evil.
I lived in Europe when Carter was president (he stunk at domestic economics, but) he was an excellent diplomat. I was proud then...

It is telling, about how simplistic and easily duped fundamentaist Christians are, that Bush so successfully convinced them that we was with them. When there were millions of other Americans who saw right through him from the start.
