God is Good, of course! Why calamities? Because God gave us free will and we make choices that bring calamities on to ourselves. Not that one persons personal choice brings an undeserved misfortune all the time, but as a people as a whole. It started with Adam and Eve when Satan tricked them into disobeying God. This is where sin entered the world bringing on curses to humankind, the biggest curse being death. The good new is, that God has made a way for us to escape this curse, that way is through Jesus Christ! When Jesus arose from death he defeated death, death the curse Satan brought to humankind! Satan and his sinful ways cause calamities, not God! God works and makes ways for human kind to escape these calamities.

There are forces of nature that are critically important to keep the planet in balance. Human activity causes the forces to become calamities.

For example, if people decide to build a town on a river prone to flooding because they want to control a trade route, can they really blame God when the river floods and destroys the town?

We pray for many reasons, most importantly to thank God for our many blessings.

We should pray for the wisdom to work with nature, instead of trying to control and dominate God’s magnificent planet.

Calamities or "Acts of God" aren't. Satan became the God of this world when Adam sinned. God only has legal rights to intervene in the lives of his followers until he returns at the second coming.

Mankind rebelled against God's rule, theocracy. He granted them temporary independence. Independence from God means not dependent upon God and making our own decisions and REAPING the fruits of our independence, handling our own problems!

He has provided a way out for those who have faith!

"God is Good". Because if he is bad, in our human life there will not be any happiness till we live. Has he is good he gives us opportunity to experience both the sorrows and happiness equally. So that we can extend our help to others when they are suffering from sorrows.

God is 1000000000% Good. Satan is 1000000% Evil.

Prayer is a way of talking to god. Yes he knows everything you thinking but he wants you to verbally speak to him.
