What is true freedom and how do the beatitudes promote it?

A Christian definition is that freedom is not the right to do what you want to do but the power to do what you ought to do. So who is the free person, the one who is enslaved to cigarettes or the one has the power to not smoke? When the Bible says that God sets us free what it is teaching is that God gives us the power to live righteous lives and not be enslaved to sin.

Trust in God is true freedom because we are freed from worry, fear and anxiety. Fear and worry keep the mind in bondage.

The Beatitudes offer assurances of our future if we follow Christ’s teachings.
