Your new computer - was it advertised as "Vista Ready"? If it was - that means that all of the drivers etc. were already downloaded for Vista. I've got Vista on my laptop (bought in March) and I LOVE it. I've had no problems.

Chances are it wasn't. If that is the case I would suggest waiting for a few months until you hear of an upgrade/patch. Here's the reason. Every single driver that is in the computer that controls your keyboard, mouse, printer, video, etc. has to be upgraded to Vista (XP drivers don't work). If you've installed any additional software on the computer (with the exception of MS-Office 2007) it may not be Vista compatible. You can do some investigating on the internet to see if there are drivers for all your peripherals, software, etc.

One thing you'll run into is some drivers are for regular Vista (32-bit) and some say Vista 64-bit. Most likely you have the regular Vista. It's easy to check - if you have the disks for Vista and it doesn't say Vista 64 on it, then you have 32. If the drivers don't specify 64 then they are for 32 or the regular version.
If you are wondering what the difference is, 64 has twice the power and speed - but compatibility problems will be a problem for a while (so don't feel ripped off). Also 64 is way more expensive.

Enjoy your new laptop - XP is excellent, Vista is awesome but it's like new shoes - a bit of a pain until its broken in. :-)

Hi i am running windows vista home premium, yes there are problems with it, but there were problems with xp as well. I have been using vista for a month now, i find it very quick on boot most of my old programmes run on it and apart from the odd freeze it's a great operating system. MS will patch it like xp so no change there.
If you want to upgrade just make sure what you want to work is compatible to vista by running the compatibility wizard on the vista home page. You will have to download it by the way.

Hope this helps.

Why are some of you so bent on giving Vista a hard time..to put it bluntly,IF YOUR MACHINE IS UP TO THE TASK IT WILL RUN FINE..other than that stay with XP.. when XP first came out people were bashing that too..i have an Xp machine that i use but i also have a Vista machine that works much better than Xp..its nice not to have things like(this is not responding and that is not responding)if you do get Vista make sure its 32bit for now..Regardless of what people say at the end of the day its up to you what system you use we only have opinions and mine is that Vista is worth it.. definitely the way forward if possible upgrade to vista premium..there is plenty of software out there for it.. AVG and AVAST make good anti virus that is compatible..here is the link for all the programmes that are Vista compatible now and there are plenty to look at..anyway i hope you find this helpfull..Steve... http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_RC_1_Software_Compatibility_List#CD.2FDVD_Authoring

In reference on your question and the 1st remark, domicile top type includes the function of Media center. you ought to no longer be dropping something, and could be gaining new advantageous aspects and a greater effective-working and -finding OS. And in connection with Wolfie, Vista's protection starts the place XP SP2 left off - all issues seen, that may no longer too undesirable. so some distance as reliability, who's well-known with? there are a number of that've been beta-sorting out Vista for a whilst and function considered significant stability and overall performance advancements from the 1st beta to the final launch candidate to the main suitable RTM.

I would. I just bought a vista premium laptop last week. i love it. It never freezes. I don't know why people say it is bad, maybe they just don't like microsoft. If a program isn't responding it will automatically reload and start working, it is really nice. I hope this helped you.

Don't upgrade to Vista. I'm using it right now and it's crap. Certain programs won't work on this operating system and they could of came out this year like Tune-Up Utilities 2007.

Don't think of the free upgrade. Think more of the hardware capability of your computer. If your computer doesn't have at least 2GB of RAM, you should forget about upgrading.

If you can do it for free then do it! it costs about £150 i think. I have it on my p.c and there is not a lot of difference so i wouldn't reccomend it if you were going out and buying it.
