I'll have to look into that wheat gluten issue, thanks. But one of my previous cats had miliary dermatitis for which she was on prednisone, and the vet said to stay away from corn gluten because it's a common allergen. Unfortunately, it's also a common food ingredient. I haven't heard anything bad about rice yet.

"Purina dry dog chow" is Purina's grocery store cheap product. They really do make better choices. Purina One (also available at the grocery store) is far superior. However Pro-Plan is virtually the same formula as Purina One at a far better price, but is not available at a grocery store. Pet stores and feed stores carry Pro-Plan, but not Purina. The effected wheat gluten that caused the recall all came from the same source. So it is not "wheat gluten" that is the problem, but rather the "source" was the problem. Wheat gluten is only used as a thickener in the gravy of the effected foods with the exception of one Sience Diet cat food that was only available by precription.
