Drinking suggests that your thirsty and you hold it in your hand eg. cup however it is perculiar to "drink" soup with a spoon..., but i guess that if it is in a cup...aka..."cup of soup" then yeah "drink", in my opinion eat describes the soup best because when you eat food it covers soups aswell. The hard thing about english is that there is more than one way of describing something, for example.....is this a bright idea? or a smart idea? they are both equally correct ... it just depends on what terms you use it ;)

Eat the soup

it can both ways because soup is a food and when u think of food u say eat, but soup is a liquid and when u think of liquid you think of drink. so u could just say "i ate some some soup today" or "I drank some soup today". it can go either way, there's no right or wrong way of saying it.
