If by Macedonia, you refer the former yugoslav republic that likes to call itself with the name of macedonia, then learn that greek people do not hate this state but they are just frustrated that this former Yugoslav state is illegally using the name of macedonia, which belongs to the ancient greek history.

There's always been a bit of bad blood between the Macedons and Greeks. Even as Alexander the Great was expanding Macedon holdings into Persia and beyond, Greeks always have considered Macedons to be 'uncouth' and 'barbaric.' I guess Greeks never got over the fact that the great Macedons could have taken Greece at any time and that left Greeks to bite their collective tongues most of the time.

Though many would argue that Macedons were Greek, they were not. During the time before Alexander the Great, Macedonia was becoming more 'Hellenized.' They shared a lot of culture, technology and Macedons learned to speak their dialect of Greek. Macedonia started out as their own peoples, however, and had their own distinct language, culture and government...they were not Greek, did not consider themselves Greek, and it was not until Alexander conquered Persia that the Greeks wanted to call Macedons 'Greeks' to steal a little of Macedonia's thunder.
