i dont know very many indians in the academia other than one famous columbia eonomics proffesor, jagdish baghwati. and are academics who win the nobel... others are poets and pacifists of course. like u say, most capable indians seem to be flying to those multinational it firms to make good bucks. also, india does not have money to pour into research grants and all... which the us can afford for its academics. if i was indian id care more about the problems u list rather than the nobel. we have 2 nobels in chile and i just dont care --havent read any of their poems and wont cuz i just dont care. but ive been to many parts in india and it really needs some development to be done.

Because India is always working on a different political agenda.
Therefore many of the intellectual person leave India out of frustration.
You will notice that there are quite a few prominent Nobel Laurettes of Indian origin world-wide, many of them in USA. There are also many other prominent reaserch and development officers or scientists in nemerous fields across the world - who are also of Indian origin.
All the R&D centres in India are probably autonomous bodies, writing research paper, spending government money, authors publishing in foreign countries and collecting royalties or publication honours or prizes. Yet many of these research projects probably have little utililization wthin the country or a joint-venture with the industry or public sector.
We are caught up in trying to produce the cheapest and sometime have not even tried to produce the best - there are many fields and products that we are good at. If we try, we can provide the best and capture a better market share.
There are many products that did not originate in Japan, yet they are making the best ones, why? Because over the years they have become quality conscious, and they have realized that quality sells, and even at a better market price.
It does take time and effort to create a trade mark.
Sony, Toyota, BMW, Mercedez Benz, Phillips, Glaxo, Bayer, CIBA, Honda, Westinghouse, GE, Goodyear, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Rools Royce, Boeing, BOAC, Tata, HMT, BHEL, Rourkela, etc.

First of all, no one wants to nominate for Indians.Because Indian economists are very brilliants rather than Nobel Laureate..Do u think economic solutions are only to empower the country?
India has own problem of. politicians.Because of their vote banking, they are utilising village people for time being manifesto. The villages need power, water and free from poverty.,basic needs are there..who takes care? Everything with Indian hands only..they are wrongly choosing their region representatives(MLA/MP)...
People also should realise ..need of power, Infrastructure facility and Water.,instead of useless free issues....
Pray to GOD ...for shining India.
