Sorry that I didn't answer your first question regarding this issue about your previous user name. Well you can still log in to that account as long as you remember the password.
What you can do is this, download skype If you haven't done so. Then log in with that user name and they will ask you for your password and that's it. If you have another skype name then log out from that user name and log in to this one. You can also search for your user name on the skype search button, see if that is the user name you used.
This is how to do it. When you have the skype open with your other user name, click no search on the top page. Then put your email address or what you think is old user name, then search. It should find it. Let me know if you need more lead.
