I had the greatest birthday party ever last night, all my friends gathered, my family, I received a lot of phone calls... BUT
my girlfriend, who a the time is living away because of her studies, limited herself to saying happy birthday a few times through yahoo messenger's offline comments... she didn't even call, and calling is not a problem for her, ever.

Should I feel like this? It feels really weird because its the first time... she has been away before during my birthday and everything has turned out great, even with the distance.

Your feelings are normal. Remember, a key to any long distance relationship is a lot of communication. I would definitely ask why she wasn't able to call you on your birthday, even if it was just for a few minutes. Surely she could have spared a little bit of her time for you. Also, tell her what you're feeling when she didn't call. I think you were sad, because you miss her, and angry because of insecurities wondering what was so important that would make her not pick up a phone and say happy birthday. There is probably a really good explaination for everything, but asking her questions and giving up your thoughts on the subject are all part of keeping a relationship healthy. Especially a long distance relationship. Happy belated birthday!

Before you decide to just get majorly pissed and claim that something is going on, take a step back for a minute. You said she's in school. I know that this time of year is midterms for many college students, maybe she was really busy studying. Instead of blowing up, maybe you should call her and talk to her, and tell her in a very non-accusatory way that by not calling you and wishing you a happy birthday that it hurt. Let her tell her side, then decide if it's worth getting pissed over.

maybe she was having just as hard of time being away from you during your birthday, and didn't know how to handle it. don't judge whats going on just by this one incident. but any way you should talk calmly with her about it

Don't feel angry with her. She probably feels bad that she couldn't be with you and didn't know what else to say. At least she did not forget you on your special day.
