Lets say a person has been inducted ...and eventually loses consciousness , i.e goes to sleep...

The person being hypnotised , in theory , must follow the hypnotist's voice through 'x' states to actually be hypnotised. If the subject loses focus , follows his own random trail of thought ,thereby falling asleep or losing awareness of the hypnotist, i doubt the hypnosis would work.Again as the person mentioned above, this question would be best answered by a professional.

If I understand correctly, you are asking if hypnosis still works even if you can't be aware of the voice that is talking to you.

Hypnosis itself is a state created through suggestivity, and the way your body reacts to it is very similar to what we call "sleep". You will lose consciousness while being hypnotized, but you won't actually go to sleep, but be in the hypnotic state (which, as I said, is very similar to sleeping).

Although there are different types of hypnosis, the suggestions do indeed still work while you are "asleep". Once you enter this state, the therapist will most likely have a conversation with you, to discover secluded areas of your personality, unconscious and hidden memories. Although it can be used in more common environments, hypnosis is a secondary therapy, or used in corroboration with a type of psychological therapy, but normally you won't only have therapy through hypnosis.

Since the therapist earns your trust through this process, and you basically become an open book and can even be directed into doing certain things, the ethical norms that are related to this field are very very strict, and only a therapist with a lot of years of education, practice and working under supervision can apply for an authorization as a hypnotherapeut. I thought this is an important point, since I guessed you might be wondering what a hypnotist could do to you while being unconscious... Hope my answer helped!

If the person is in fact asleep the suggestions would be ineffectual. If they were in deep trance that is a whole other item.
Suggestions given in deep trance have a much more profound effect. This is one of the most positive methods of removing pain for dental,ob and surgical use.
In deep trance the person may or may not remember what suggestions were given or the hypnotist may give a suggestion that the person would have no memory of the suggestions and think they had fallen asleep. This is desirable when working with addiction you can not fight what you do not know... You must have the persons permission before you do this. And you must have recordings/vidio tapes of what suggestions you gave.
Remember in trance you are never unconcious.

That is quite a specialised thing and you'll get better answers from specialists. I do know that hypnosis is quite amazing and it works on a variety of issues/conditions.
