A feminist is a person (female or male) who adheres to a belief that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men.

Like any belief system there are people who hold both moderate and extreme views. There are women out there who hate men and call themselves a feminist but that doesn't mean that those views are shared by other feminists.

I would call myself a feminist because I think everybody should have equal rights regardless of gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, religion etc etc etc. But I definitely dont hate men. Men are great :)

The definition of feminist is pretty fluid and usually disparate from its dictionary definition. (I describe myself as a humanist, not a feminist, and I try not to hate anyone.)

This little segment right here:

"I would call myself a feminist because I think everybody should have equal rights regardless of gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, religion etc etc etc."

Under such criteria, I'm pretty certain that just about anyone would agree. I'm pretty comfortable saying the people on Yahoo! Answers in general would be all for equal rights under the law.

When you get into status, however, you have a problem. Does a janitor have the same status as a president? Of course not, and expecting someone to treat the two with equal respect is ludicrous. When you carry that over in to mother vs. father of husband vs. wife you get major complications, however.

I figure that the convention putting a male in charge of a household makes sense, but if a woman is stronger than her husband [not physically, but emotionally/mentally] (it happens pretty often, I'm sure) then she should head the home/finances/make the decisions.

The question then comes down to, "Should the role of a wife or husband be more respected/have a higher status?" In that case, I figure the roles are just different and should be equally respected for a job well done. If the effort put in is not equal, then whoever is doing the better job should obviously get more respect.

What I have seen from feminists is that they tend to disregard the difference in effort. A woman is not automatically a lady, just like a man is not automatically a gentleman. You should not have equal status to a man if you are not doing an equal job, although you should damn well have equal rights under the law.

That's the way I see it.

Feminist, noun: One who believes in the social, political, legal, and economic equality of the sexes, and that this can be achieved through the advancement of women.

That's me. I did go through a misandrist phrase not long ago, but my style of feminism has become more developed.

I am not a feminist.

I do not hate men.

The word is related to feminism. Consider "the presence of female character in males....consider then a male who wants a woman to handle it all, doesn't have problem solving skills, calls his role in the family "conflict" he is trying to avoid and the bait women end up taking instead of dealing with their roles ONLY ...a wife is not a man's mother he has or had a mother if death has occurred. Are women trying to erase their mother-in- laws and become their husbands mothers or is this brought on by men who are trying to force their way into that of which they thought dad had? Why do you think men are pitting their wives and mothers against each other in some cases? In any case nobody seems to know their roles in the family and it's clear that God's plan, when allowed to be tampered with doesn't work.

Are women meant to simply cook, clean, and change diapers - No. Marriage is not a mega-nursery that includes one of the children being a full grown adult man. His father before him failed him and most likely did the same to his mother if this occurring. Consider a father's failure to lead in front of a daughter unless she grows spiritually. Avoiding marriage/family isn't natural and only places money into limited pockets when and if the power struggle starts. Consider the mothers who have raised their daughters to purposely view men as losers and if marriage arises should wear the pants in the family. Consider also the men who lack nurture in their childhoods due to moms escaping.

Women, when walked to the alter by their fathers were not expected to take care of their father...at least in healthy families. Therefore, a man who isn't worthy of headship and a woman who hasn't a clue how to resist being forced into a role that isn't hers should not marry until both know what a marriage is. It is two better-half's coming together...a man and a woman becoming one in the eyes of the Lord - His way. It is not lust, not tinsel town and surely shouldn't include interference from outside money trolls that, if a man fails to recognize, will consume his entire family starting with himself. I feel bad for men who haven't bucked up and taken on their role because it's against human nature to want want want failure.
