There is software out there that says it speeds up your connection but all that I have found seem to just save the pages that you previously viewed. This speeds up connecting to that site only.
There is a way to speed up your connection without using and installed program.
this is for broad band connections. I didn’t try it on dial up but might work for dial up.
1.make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.
2. start - run - type gpedit.msc
3. expand the "local computer policy" branch
4. expand the "administrative templates" branch
5. expand the "network branch"
6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window
7. in right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
8. on setting tab check the "enabled" item
9. where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0
Now dial-up connections are notoriously slow. I would suggest that you spend the money and get high speed through you local cable company or a DSL connection.

Try these few simple steps which should make web browsing more efficient without spending any money.
1. Clear your Internet Cache, by going to Internet Explorer, then going to the Tools menu, and selecting Internet Options. Click the button for 'Delete Files...' and also, why not 'Clear History'.
2. Upgrade to a faster browser. Try www.getfirefox.com to upgrade from Internet Explorer to a user based free faster, more secure browser. You can even copy your favourites from IE!
3. Do a little spring cleaning. Download AVG Free Edition from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 and download Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
Try those steps, and your browsing should be faster, safer and cleaner. Also, remembering to do simple tasks, such as emptying the Recycle Bin, will help to speed up your PC.
Hope that helps,
Simon H

If you're not planning to buy faster internet (i.e. DSL, T1, T3 etc.) then your best bet would be to clean up some unneeded space on your hard disk. Also, cleaning up your temporary internet files will speed up your browser. If you're using Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools>Delete Browsing History. As for any other browser, I don't know.

There are subscription services like onspeed that will make a difference but will create problems of it own. I wouldn't use any of the so called internet accelerators, mainly they are a way of getting malware/spyware on your machine. $0Kb/s would indicate that your 'phone line could be better. If you have a number of 'phones on the same line, try removing them.you would hope to get a connection speed of at least 50Kb/s normally

No, there isn't any way, other than getting rid of dialup. 40 Kb/s is pretty average for dialup; I've seen much worse.

Get up off of some dough and get cable or dsl. You will be hard pressed to get to 56k at best on a good day with dialup. New phone wires, phone jack, and a new V92 modem would get you close to 56k.

hm...no much increase in speed, but there are tools claiming to increase your connection speed, try searching it on net...
i tried using one, but the increase seems not observable...but i will recommend tune up utilities 2007, lots of tools one of them is the net optimizer
there are other accelarator services that does not focus on making tweaks but it's actually a service, i'm not sure if it's free, mostly from your dial-up provider, it works like this, all info or data you request undergoes compression in their servers before sending it to you, making it faster :)
