1/5 and 1/4 same denominator is 20. For 1/5 you had to multiply X 4 to get 20. So you have to multiply 4 X's the numerator. For 1/4 you had to multiply 4 X's 5 and you have to multiply 5 times the the denominator. So the answer would be : 9/20. Hope this helps!!!

well you start by making the Denominator( the lower number of the fraction) the same. You do this by finding the least comming denominator LCD.
So the bottom number are 4 and 5.
muliply the 1/5 by 4 and the 1/4 by 5:
1 4 4
------- x -------- = --------
5 4 20
1 5 5
------- x -------- = --------
4 5 20
Than you add those two answers. The Denominator in your answer stays the same
5 4 9
------- + -------- = --------
20 20 20

You need common denominators before you can add fractions. Your denominators are 5 and 4. Find the least common multiple (LCM) of your denominators.
Multiples of 5: 5,10,15,20
Multiples of 4: 4,8,12,16,20
LCM is 20. 20 is your new denominator
Change 1/5 to a fraction with 20 as the denom.
1/5 = 4/20 5x4=20, so 1x4=4 (Whatever you do to the denominator, you must do to the numerator)
Change 1/4 to a fraction with 20 as the denom.
1/4= 5/20 4x5=20, so 1x5=5
4/20 + 5/20 = 9/20
