I did this by thinking that I would prove everyone wrong...those that said, "you never will"! No one had faith in me. At the same time, I thought about how I hated cigarettes.
So, I just kept picturing myself being a non smoker. I stayed away from anyone who smoked. I changed my diet to cut up pieces of apples and oranges the very next morning for breakfast, and healthier foods from then on.
I kept thinking the most horrifying thoughts imaginable about how people die, and wanted to live. I felt so much better.
This was done "cold turkey". I smoked about the same as you, for 17yrs?.
Go take a shower, and do alot of deep breathing, start reading a book, and keep yourself busy. If you start exercising be careful! Ask a Dr. first! Start slowly until you're lungs clear out! You will feel so much better in so many ways! Join a non smoking/quitting group on line RIGHT NOW! No matter what, you can do this!

Willpower comes and goes. That's not a sign of weakness. Some days you will be strong and overcome the cravings. All it will take is one day where you are susceptible and convince yourself one cigarette is okay and you are right back on the ride.

Get yourself prepapared. You can't quit "RITE now". Set it up for maybe two weeks away. You have to say goodbye to a friend, mistress, and a comfort that has become a part of you. Give the smokes a proper funeral and they will be less likely to rise from the grave so to speak.

When you quit, USE THE PATCH in conjunction with other stop smoking aid. You use the drug nicotine every day many times per day. Its an insidipus beast on your back. It will win without aid. (Okay some smoker that quit cold turkey will jump in here... cold turkey quitting is successful 6% of the time) I'd fight the odds and get some help.

The last but most important part is changing behaviors. You will have to drink tons of water. Chew gum. Take walks. Exercise. If you are for real, you do whatever it takes. Good Luck

My husband was what you'd call a heavy smoker. He smoked 3 packs a day until he found out he had emphysema. He quit 8 yrs. ago by using his will power and the nicotine patch. Too late though. Sadly, smoking is what killed him this last December. Don't ever think it won't happen to you. Try your best to give it up and get healthy. Good Luck.

Hey! I hope this helps..
*Set a date to quit smoking! Tell all your family and friends that this is the day your going to quit and that they are not to buy you cigarettes after this day. Make sure you have thrown out any you have stashed around the house.
*Every time you feel like a cigarette tell a family/friend and get them to encourage you to have something like a chewy that will keep your mouth occupied! (there is always nicotene chewys)
*Take up a physical activity to keep you busy, hopefully after a while your body won't want nicotene for your physical excersize.

GoodLuck! Just remember everytime you smoke and make yourself feel better, you could slowly be killing yourself and others

Hi,

I would suggest you do a detox. I have many friend who quit smoking after doing a detox and after the detox, they find that they dun feel like smoking anymore.

And the detox is simple. All you need to do is three things.

Number one, follow the detox programme which requires you to change your diet a little bit. Eg, take more vege and less meat and seafoods.

Number two, use 1 minute a day to take some natural health foods that I take to enhance the speed and the effect of the detox.

Number three, drink lots of water to flush the toxins out..

And that's it.

The rest is up to you.

So what do you think? ;)

If you are keen to find out more about my detox programme, you can email me at verityy@yahoo.com.

Stopping cold turkey can be tough, it is worth a shot but I have tried it several times and I always go back to smoking again or I bite everybody around me heads off.

Try something that will make smoking taste disgusting you that way you will not want to smoke or hate the taste so bad that it will make you sick to your stomach to smoke.

take a "field trip" to a cancer hospital and see how they are dying and ask yourself if that's the road you wanna choose for yourself. Find new activities for your mouth and hands(chew gum, stress ball, clay, cook) Cold turkey is like putting your body through a withdrawl or a detox stay strong. If you HAE to have one(we all have moments like that), make it an inconvience for yourself(smoke outside, use matches instead of a lighter, smoke lights or 100's, etc...)Good luck.
