what ever may be the reason - taking pill for long period is harmful to your body. Pill contains chemicals which directly affects your hormone mechanism. In long run you may end up with obesity, irregular periods, and even sterility. Consult your Gynecologist, before proceeding.

The Pill is strong enough to reset your cycle. the Pill will not be effective for birth control until your second month of taking it. Since you are not taking it for birthcontrol, I wonder why you are in such a hurry? Technically you can start the pill whenever, providing you understand the first month will be ineffective in preventing pregnancy.
I start taking the pill whenever since I too use an alternative form of birthcontrol. I take the Pill for PCOS and period regulation. If you are waiting forever because your periods are irregular and it's taking forever to come, then start taking it today.
by the second month you will have a regular period.

If you have a regular period and take it before the start time suggested on the package, then you'll mess up your cycle in a sense. because you'll get your period on approx day 24 of a 21 day active pill pack. If that is not a problem for you then it does not matter when you take it.

Taking the pill sooner than recommended will mess up your cycle.

I would recommend talking to your dr first to see what they suggest and also checking for hormone imbalances that could be affecting your period if you have problems with it.
