I am a student and 17 years old and i just fancy doing something dramatic, perhaps loosing a bit of weight and changing my hair and clothes- i just wanted to surprise my friends because they have seen the same old me for about five years- also i think it might help to improve my confidence... should i wait until college breaks up- then i will have a month or so to myself? Any others ideas...

i'd say why not start now? if confidence is what you need, then there is no delaying that!

I just did. I'm turning 40 in a month and my wife said I wear baggy, ugly clothes. So, I decided to throw everything out and buy close-fitting clothes. I'm in very good shape for my age (thin, not bald thank God) but I was always under the impression that I had to wear typical guy sh*t off the rack which is straight up-and-down, no definition, plaid. Yuck. Now I wear low-rise jeans, flared, tight shirts and designer shoes that I get either at thrift stores (believe it or not) and on ebay. I even wear a little touch-up make up and got my ear pierced. I feel completely different. ALIVE. My wife can't keep her hands off of me--and we have five kids, so this might not be a good idea? ;-)

Start loosing the weight now. It make take longer than you anticipate. As for the Hair and Clothes do it as soon as you have time. It may be the dramatic change YOU need to see in yourself to change your own outlook on YOU! There's nothing like a great haircut to increase confidence. If you have been pretty conservative with your looks in the past, I would recomend a change, but not a dramatic freaky change. You don't want to go from the same everyday, to all of a sudden trying to make a statement with bright flame red hair.

IE Marge Simpson could go from her normal hair cut to something soft & flowing with confidence in herself and other agreeing she looks good. but for someone like marge to go to a freaking mohawk or something wild liek that would not be good. No one would like it and she would regret her wild whim a day later, actually reducing her confidence, rather than increasing it.
