Cannabis cultivation, possession and thus inhalation is illegal in most states of Australia, except New South Wales and South Australia. In New South Wales there is a town in the north called Nimbin that has a festival every year called Mardi Grass. The legal consequences, in the states that cannabis is illegal, range from diversion, which means you get counselling, up to several years in prison. In South Australia it has been decriminalized for years(meaning you can grow it but not flaunt it in public) but it is illegal in every other state but they all have different laws.

not sure but you would find the town of Nimbin very interesting as its legal there and how that came about is very interesting and very funny.
