I do not know anything about Unix...only what I have learned by researching for the past hour. My ex-boyfriend has been using his computer to monitor all of my activity on my laptop. How was he able to set this up, how is he using Unix to find out all of my passwords and please...How do I shut him down?

Can someone explain to me the remote/console (local) user situation- both of us are on macs using bash.

He doesn't need to use Unix to spy your computer.. He obviously installed a monitoring software on it (and there are a lot of software able to do this).
Formating the laptop would be the safest choice... But first try looking in add/remove for suspicious software that have been installed.
Don't forget to install a good firewall (never use the firewall from windows) and an antivirus....

use windows cd to format the hard disk and reinstall. That will efectively remove anything he might have planted on your computer.
