There okay. Reliability is good and I like them too. Stay away from the older M class SUV and C class cars. More name that anything else. And yes and no as far as problems are concerned. It depends on the year and model. Which one are you considering? And yes Daimler Benz owns Chrysler and now wants to sell them.

Yes.Any Mercedes From 1950-1999 is reliable the new ones have electrical problems. The latest Generation ones should be back to the old ways of quality control. Like The new redesigned ones like the 2008 C class should be reliable.Any Benz in the 70's 80's and 90's are great and reliable.

If it doesn't have a star, it's not a car!
I think it to be normal.. I am obsessed and several of my friends are to. I can't afford a new one but have had many used ones and worked my way upto a 1999 E320T wagon with chip tuning. Then last year sold that to buy a 1991 500SEC Lorinser http://www.angelfire.com/wi/myhog/cars.html

To put the record straight, CHRYSLER DID NOT buy Mercedes, but Mercedes bought Chrysler which included Freightliner and some other companies.

While repairs on MB are more exspensive then say a Dodge, take the same care of both and that Dodge will be long gone while the MB still commands a decent resale and drives like a new car.
It is a luxury car and show me a foreign luxury car that is cheap to maintain in the USA.
Normally they are extremely reliable, drive great and usually have cool creature comforts and safety items that other manufacturers are still dreaming about.

Here are some places to search up and try to find a good deal and what models to stay away from:

http://www.mbcoupes.com
http://www.mercedesforum.com
http://www.mercedesshop.com

Other people bash MB owners because they are jealous. Own one and you will always own one.

please people stop saying chrysler bought mercedes! you are idiots! it is not even funny how much more money mercedes has than chrysler. chysler is a peice of american **** Mercedes has manufactured cars since the early 20th century they have made numerous advances in safety, style, and performance. The new news is that now they want to sell chrysler!!! i dont know why, but i know this for a fact my dad is a co owner of Mercedes Benz In San Diego.

Anyway, Mercedes Benz can be reliable if you take good care of it, and service it when it needs to be serviced, but just like any other car they can have its problems. A good example of a well built benz is the W123 chasis. I had one, lasted me 330k only one problem i had (new glow plugs) about 20 dollars) MB is the Greatest

I depends on what model you're considering. I have had quite a few the 85 and earlier diesels. They are probably the most reliable cars ever built. a year or so ago an early 80's 123 chassis 240D went into a museum in Germany as the highest mileage passenger car known. Documented over 5 million kilometers!
Out of seven Mercedes diesels I have owned (two current and five previously) ranging from '78 to '84, I have never had one of them leave me stranded. Doing my own repairs and maintenance I think my average is under $300 per year, per car. Unfortunately I haven’t had as good of luck on the gas models.

I have a Mercedes and love it, it is the best car I have ever owned and would like to buy a new one.
I do not find them any more expensive than anyother car. And I find them allot cheaper to maintain than a BMW or VW in the long run because they last longer. If you have the money take the plunge I do not think you will regret it.

By the way

nonono is wrong Mercedes bought out Chysler that why is it DiamlerChysler and not ChyslerDiamler. You do not see Iacoca anymore you see DR. Dieter. But they are trying to sell it off to GM or Toyota.

Mercedes owns Chrysler and now wants t dump them because Chrysler has ruined Mercedes reputation. If it were not for Mercedes Chrysler would not have the Dodge Calliber or Chrysler 300, Pacifica or crossfire which are MB designs and most parts. If it were not for MB Chrysler would have gone the way of the do-do when mini-van sales took a dive back in 2004.

This obsession is okay, as long as you can keep the car in good condition and not put a huge strain on your lifestill due to your wallet getting thin. Being a tech for Benz, i can tell you they are not cheap to repair and will require a good amount or repairing. and different models have there problems. i would say with out a doubt there biggest flaw is there electrical systems, but it varies by model. i can't tell you exactly what problems you may encounter with out knowing which vehicle and year range your looking at. just go into it knowing (unlike what another reader posted) you WILL spend more than you would at most other dealers (VW, BMW, SAAB, VOLVO, etc..) on most MB models. and as a side note, they do let some slide through the factory that will last a long time and not require many repairs, but they are far and few betwwen on anything newer 2K and up.
and also if you are buying one to keep for a while, buy the FACTORY "starmark" warranty!!!!! its well worth the money, but only the factory warranty! all others reall suck!
good luck my friend!

Hey Al, I have the same obsession! I have been lucky enough to have owned several. I particularly like the pre 1990 ones. At this time I have a 1986 560 sel I bought it on eBay for just under $2000.00. In the last year I have put 10,000 miles on it with no problems. Part's are inexpensive and plentiful, again on eBay! So in short Al ,go for it! This is life not a rehearsal.
