In my opinion, I wouldn't even worry about Vista just yet. I hear that it's not that bad, but I'm still going to wait a year or so for them to work all the bugs out no matter how minor if existant at all they are.
XP Pro is probably one of if not the best operating systems on the market.

Vista are new but:
1. need better hardware
2. Older Software problems
3. current hardware compatible?
4. You will get "Red Screen of Doom"
XP got:
1. security problem and keep increasing.
2. Third party or older (95, 98) Software maybe incompatible
3. unncessary services (like Port 135, what for???)
4. unncesssary shared IRQ.
5. Updates gonna fade at microsoft web site since Vista came (Where can you find Windows 95, 98, NT new Updates already???)
6. You will get "Blue Screen of Death"

I have found XP Professional to be VERY reliable for over 7 years!
If your system can handle it, VISTA could be even better...I've seen 5 versions available! ***UPDATE***...make that 11 versions available! Your computer needs 512 mb to 1 GIG ram to operate VISTA, and for "AURA" you need a REAL video card with its own ram, 128mb minimum (not a cheep onboard video setup.)
Download the advisor below to see if your computer can handle VISTA...

xp, less memory usage, same performance, cheaper, same functionality, not as annoying. all those graphics bells and whistles are quite taxing on your graphics card and processor on vista. huge hard drive and memory use in vista, with nothing to justify it.
