I wish to send my writtings through mail but ina fashion that people can not modify the text at all, I already tried under "preferences" the " read only" option but it does not seem to work, can any one please please prety please help me to solve this chalenge I have?

open ur document
go to Tools
click on Protect document
make it read only
click on start enforcing protection
provide ur document with a password

For a Microsoft Office file:
Open file. On the Tools menu, click Options, and click the Security tab. Choose password options listed.
