I would recommend that you drain out all the fuel that has been in the mower over the winter and replace it with new. This should solve the problem.
Hope this helps

Make very sure you have exactly right plug in !
Gap on plug may be way out. How Old is machine ?
any machine older than 5 or 10 years, it could be many
parts wrong ! Checking lead is good but !
It may be real best idea, to get machine to small
engine repair place. or have "Lisenced " tech guy come
to you! Try Phoning a small engine repair Tech ! he
may be able Solve Problem Right on the phone !
Be as Specific as Possible when you Talk to tech guy!
Have All Numbers & Part names Ready inc. name of
machine & model # . See if you have a Neigbour with
same or similar machine , he may be able to help,
directly ! There are lots of "Back-yard" mechanic's, 1 out
10. know what they are Talking about ! Small engine
repair may even have a tech book you can Buy !
Also try Google - under 'small engine repair '.

Work your way back from the plug... take the plug-cap off and see if you get a spark at the end of the lead when held near the engine casing while turning the engine over, try swapping the coil, check the points operation (if fitted), etc.
Once you have a spark, refill with fresh petrol (it goes stale), clean the air filter and you should be in business.
Good luck.

if you have had it in the garage over winter with petrol in the tank then have tried to start it for the first time for several months
the octanes have probably gone from the fuel which will then not ignite the fuel in the chamber , empty the fuel tank and put in fresh fuel through the system then remove spark plug and gently heat the plug with a blow torch or on your gas cooker quickly replace the plug when warm and try and start good luck

There is such a device as a HT lead and spark plug tester. Might be useful. Or service your machine, and just replace the leads from the distributor.

you should do 4 issues: a million) Drain each of the old gasoline out of the tank. 2) purchase a twig can of starter fluid used in autos, unscrew the spark plug and spray some in the hollow area. 3) Reinstall the spark plug, proper the engine and start up the motor. 4) enable the engine idle for a minute to get the strong gasoline flowing. Then off you flow. strong success.
