The only things anyone truly needs, and that's assuming the need to live, is sustenance, hydration, and protection from the elements and other physical dangers. Outside of that, everything else is just a want.
That's my two cents for ya.

Wants are below the surface while Needs are above the surface. I know I Need a new car. However, I will ultimately buy the one I Want! The feeling or emotion behind owning it is what I Want. Needs are totally rational while Wants are purely emotional. Needs are based on fact while Wants are grounded on perception. Needs are product or service specific while Wants have very little, if anything, to do with the product or service being offered.
people actually verbalize what they want less than .01% of the time. The reason for it is simple. Most people don’t know what they Want.

A want is something you THINK you can't live without, and a need is something you really can't survive without, like food, drink, shelter.

A want is something you want but don't really need, and a need is something that you need? Yeah, does that make sense?

A need is your basic food, clothing and shelter. A want is everything else that doesn't sustain you.
