There's several of reasons, none of them are strictly Biblical.
There's the idea that an egg symbolises new life and we get new life through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.
A similar one is a non-Christian version, that the egg symbolises the new life that comes with the onset of spring and Easter happens to coincide very nicely with the spring exquinox (it's usually the end of March, beginning of April).
Another that goes round Sunday Schools is that just as the egg was broken, so the physical body of Jesus was broken but from it came His Spirit (presumably fluffy and yellow) as the baby chick comes from the egg.
I didn't say they were good reasons but these are the reasons I've heard.
Personally, I don't see any similarity between Easter and the egg and I (being a born again Christian) have always bought my sister's children (sis and brother in law also being born again Christians) clothes. I've always thought of that as a much more suitable and practical gift for Easter, especially as the children weren't allowed sweets and chocolate when young.
I don't subscribe to the silly notion that you have to make everything fit scripture and make it sound stupid.

There are two main reasons given - one is that the egg is a symbol of life and fertility and when Christianity was being introduced to the Pagans, the church stuck to the same festivals and symbolism to make the transition easier. The other is that the eggs represent the stones moved away from the cave in which Christ's body lay. Either way, like Christmas, for most, it's just another holiday and has little to do with religion these days.

Early Egyptians and Persians are said to have considered the egg as a symbol of fertility and a new life. They, therefore, had a practice of coloring and eating eggs to mark the arrival of spring, the arrival of a new life. The Christians, it is said, adapted the practice and the Easter egg stood for a symbol of a new life, the Resurrection.

Real reason, commercial interest, Easter was origonally a pagan festival for something where they noticed that things like sheep were born then (a reason for the Romans to get drunk) then Jesus died on Good Friday and came to life 3 days later which is Easter Sunday.

The reason for having eggs at Easter time as well as small bunnies and chicks is to represent the new life. When Jesus died for us it was to give new life to all. Hence why we have hot cross buns
1. Yeast rises - Jesus rose form the dead
2. Cross- he died on the cross.
Easter is all about new life, new beginnings and a treat after lent.

Fertility- Easter was originally a time of spring celebration and ceremony for good harvests and fertility in the coming year- Christianity simply co-opped the date so that pagans would be more likely to celebrate it
