Nope. God made humans for His purpose. Man made computers for theirs. God gave man knowledge to build computers. God has no need to make computers equal or better than man. We were created in His image. Read the book of Genesis.

no for several reasons:

1 - Artificial Intelligence is still man made ; and as such is not in essence a self evolved intelligence.

2 - A.I. on the scale you are talking would require the storage space of EVERY single PC or computer on the Planet to store its conciousness- we still have come up with a definitive answer to "how much storage space a human brain has" so with that in mind could we ever know how much storage space would be needed.

3 - its not a realistic idea; humanity is already suspicious of its own kind with too much information let alone a "foreign entity" that knows everything everyone on earth knows

I honestly think its jsut science fiction - but good to think about if "all things being equal" and what not...

Knowledge isn't everything. The unique capability of human consciousness is its capacity to connect apparently unconnected observations, ideas, or thoughts. That's creativity. It's also one of the ways we can strike a response in other people that is illuminating, yielding unexpected insight. I suppose the internet might collect a mass of knowledge, updating as new info is discovered - and it might be programmed to make random connections which could be interesting, in addition to the more obvious ones. But I doubt a computer could achieve the subconscious levels of our common humanity as another human could. Perhaps the difference is similar to the difference between a photograph and a painting; or music -- just sounding the right notes in correct time etc doesn't make music, as any musician will tell you.

I don't see that happening.

The Library of Congress is a massive collection of books and knowledge and it will never be conscious. Neither will Congress for that matter.
Anyway, consciousness requires self-awareness and the internet, as it exists now, has no foreseeable need or benefit from that.
Good question though.

if the internet, like all things, is equal to the sum of its parts, then the internet is about 90% pornography and about 8% illiteracy (spelling and grammar have gone out the window) and maybe 1% pure unadulterated crap, so even if it did achieve consciousness can you imagine what it would be like? (Omigod, it would be just like Bill Clinton!)

no it's a pretty ridiculous idea, how about your trash can attaining consciousness after dumping your books, diary and underwear in it?
