Sorry, that should have been,' icastlet, I don't understand how you got apple tree. Can you explain how it fits with the clue?' Thanks.

Think second one is "nailed to the mast".........still working on the first one :-)

For those who are not convinced, I'm sure second one is "nailed to the mast" folks. It is quite a well known saying "nail your colours to the mast" Also nailed is an anagram of "and lie". Small child gets you the "mast...small part of "master" as in a young boy,child.

Afraid the 1st one I've had to give up on. Please post that answer when you have it Gladys :-)

There is a place in the Yorkshire Dales called Appletreewick, which explains the "wicked in the Yorkshire Dales" bit, but I don't know how that ties in with "pupil actor".

Maybe the second word of the first clue is 'Moor'. Sorry I can't help you any further, that's tough.

looks like the second one might be natal, as in neo-natal with small child ,but what in the heck is that ''e'' doing in there.
