the risk of having a child with down syndrome can happen at any age! I have met women who are as young as 16-18 yrs old with a child who has DS . look at it this way.....it is a roll of the dice, just like getting a boy or a girl basically. you get what you are given. for those of us who are fortunate enough to be parents of a child with down syndrome...it is a blessing. I understand the sentiments of the gentleman who stated that his daughter was "his heart" because that is how I feel as well, my son is the sunshine that lights my days. when you are ready to have another child....go for it! don't worry needlessly about DS, because it really is nothing to worry about. children with down syndrome are just that...children... just like every other child.

Down syndrom does not have an age
because all the people I know that have a child with down syndrom had the baby at 18 +
Now I know that some women who have children late like 40+
are more at risk for that to happen
but again their no guarantee
and I certainly don't think that havign a baby at 30 is an added chance that your child will have it
So please have your baby when you are ready and if you have douth ask your doc to run test while you are pregnant
Good luck

People who wait until they aren like 30 and older are a high risk of miscarriage and down syndrome when they wait so long 2 have there first child.

Classically it is a mother over 40. Anyone can have a Down's syndrome child.
There are tests that can be done when pregnant to see if this is the case. Then you can decide what to do about it.

Check the graph on the link below. It shows that the risk is not much more than when you are in your early twenties. The risk does go up steadily with age, but it doesn't starty soaring until you are in your mid to late 30s.

typically if you are over 35 as a first time mom or over 40 at any pregnancy. Its a extra chromosone. and the Quad test is the best way to have a picture (although not 100% accurate) on if you have a downsyndrome baby, which i have to say are the cutest babies ever.

The longer you wait, the greater the chance. My wife was 38 when my little girl was born. Yes, my little girl is downs, and she is my heart. But the doctor warned us that there was a strong chance she would be before she was born.
