The simple answer is that they could never get power in any other way than making the Country ungovernable internally. Externally the ANC were regarded as Terrorists by both the US and the UK Governments and were not supported other than the Benefits they lived off at the British taxpayers expense. They could not fight a " War" because the SADF would have wiped them off the face of the Earth had there been an open confrontation. So what was left? Foment internal disruption through lies and propaganda and use violence against anyone who opposed them ( the infamous necklace of the Mandelas). Then there were the torture camps in Angola ,Tanzania and other neighbouring territories which have been conveniently hushed up and forgotten about by the ANC. They solicited the assistance of the biggest despots on the Planet and todays South Africa is as a result of the West caving in to the Communist propaganda that was waged in Western newspapers playing upon White guilt and exaggerated notions of repression.

For a group that prided themselves on terrorism and exile, thus NOT made up of the sharpest and most patient knives in the drawer, I think that the highly politically impressionable youth gave them an opportunity to have their goals realized much quicker than they would have if they had considered liberation THROUGH education.

we're talking about the anc here. they deny the correlation between hiv and aids, say beetroot juice cures aids, stubbornly fight that machine gun zuma's willy is not a raping tool, that affirmative action is working (despite the brain drain) and that a R90 million rand wall around the president's residence is better than feeding 7941 children for a year, and that witchdoctors should have equal status to medical doctors...
do you honestly think that they have a concept of how to even spell education????
