trust me I'm a roof carpenter and if you are asking this question seek professional help there is way too much to explain. In this i mean as in the way it is pitched and also the safety side so it stays up. The weight off a tiled roof is 90-120 kg per square metre so you can just imagine the weight up there with a roof that is not safe.

If you want to change the pitch of the roof this will involve alot of work. And if you plan on using tile then I suggest making the pitch at least a 4/12 with 2 layers of 30# felt underlayment to ensure no leaks. Tile should not be used for any low slope applications. This may not answer your question fully but I am a roofing contractor and have seen the nightmares that homeowners have called me out to fix after they did it themselves.

I would use roofkrete on your garage roof. It is the only permanent roofing system on the market. Have a look at the website www.roofkrete.com. You could put this product on a pitched roof or a flat roof. I've had it on my garage roof for six years and had no problems.

In my country it's known as an "A" frame or "pitched frame" structure, made from rafters (the heavier, down beams) and battons (the lighter horizontal beams). These are nailed into potion in accordance with a pre-approved plan (by the local authorities). First you remove the flat roof and then lift the down frames into position on the roof. They are vthen evenly sapced in the length of your roof and nailed into position by using the horizontal battons. The foofing tiles fits on top and are also nailed into position, overlapping one another.

If you are a UK resident (Yahoo Answers does not tell us where you are from) I suggest you speak to your local planning office first. As you are changing a roof-line you may need to comply with building regs and may even need planning permission depending upon the location and nature of your garage... Nothing's easy is it!

My neighbour had this done but he got someone in to do it. i recommend that you do the same, cause if it goes wrong it will only cost you more money in the long run. Good luck.
