Is Meth illegal because of the so called damage it does to families or is it illegal because the government can't figure out a way to make a profit from it and control the makers. If you are claiming "damage" how about the damage liquor does and the long term affects it can have on the members as well as the innocent victims of lets say a drunk driver killing someone or a person that has many DUI's and has lost his/her license but continues to drink and drive and hurts someone, or the pain it can cause from a violent drunk, or the continued jobs being lost from being drunk, all of which can be said to some degree of a Meth user, so why is Meth illegal and liquor legal

apparently hit a sore spot with some drinkers, no my Joe does not open a cold one, neither of us drink, I am a social worker and yes occasionally used Meth when I was youger, it did not desrtoy my teeth or make me "insane" or violent because that is not in my nature, the same as not all drunks are violent, if it is not in there nature it won't be. I am also not a moron, I am well educated person, who asked a question to think about, and cocaine and herion also use to be legal and sold over the counter, where do you think coke a cola got it's name and advertised the energy it gave you? From the caffeine? Think again, and if you have an addictive personality liquor can become just as addictive just a quickly as Meth. I myself know people that use Meth everyday as well as "socially" and you would not have a clue, no more then if they were using diet pills on an everyday basis, so look at the facts not the commercials or the scare tactics.

Meth is one of the few, actually the only drug that I can understand why it is illegal. You never see an old speed freak. Think about how many 70, 80, 90 year olds do you see that use meth, that have started in youth? None, if you start it is on;y a matter of time before it kills you or gets you killed. And not in the way that other drugs do, ie having to deal with drug dealers. Meth will make you psychotic and dangerous as ****. I have used any drug you can think of and meth has got to be my least favorite, the come down sucks, the high isn't that great and it ***** you body up to much. If it didn't make people nuts when they were on a binge and just messed up their body's, then I would say fine make it legal, but that is one of the few drugs, besides alcohol, that poses a serious threat to people other then the user.

I've used meth a lot in the past. I've smoked it, snorted it, injected it, booty bumped it, and ingested it. Here's the scary part...I'm only 23. I've seen what meth does to people, I've seen what it does to myself. It isn't something ANYONE should ever do. Like those commercials say, "not even once". I did it mainly to lose weight, but consequently a great high and great sex came with it. The truth is though, it does horrible things to your body. People get open sores, their immune system is weakened, their inhibitions are basically zero, their teeth rot, they stay up for days and days, they don't eat, they stop caring about anything else, they think they see bugs on their faces. I used to get huge boils all over my face, sometimes on my body. They are very painful. Once I got one right over my adam's apple and I couldn't breath when I laid on my back. Plus this stuff is so addicted and it's hard to say no after you've tried it because the high is so amazing. Luckily I managed to stay off of it. Although alcohol can ruin your life, it's nothing compared to what meth can do to you. I've overdosed and it was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. I literally accepted death because I thought I was going to die in a few minutes. THAT'S why it's illegal.

no meth does real damage. weed is the only one that is illegal due to proffit issues. liqour mainly does damage by choice or disease. alcoholism is much easier to overcome than meth usage. a friend of mine's mom was an alcoholic and made a choice to go to AA and fix herself. not many meth users can or do make that choice. if you say that about meth than that is true for crack and everthing else. some drugs you can get hooked by using once. (i.e. meth, crack heroine, crank, coke, etc) liqour and weed are not among those drugs. yes alcoholism is terrible i'm not denying that but it's not anything like being hooked to any of those other drugs you cant even compare meth and alcohol i'm sorry. it's much easier to use alcohol responsibly than meth. there is no such thing as using meth responsibly. it's even proven it's safer to drive drunk or high from weed than it is to drive high on any other drug or even sleepy. also it's a different type of 'high' you get from meth than alcohol or weed alcohol you don't get that invincible attitude you get with things like meth. meth also makes you see things that aren't there which is much more dangerous. i.e. the couple who used it and got stranded in the snow and the guy was seeing what he thought was people who wouldn't help him it was actually a pasture of cows he couldnt tell the 911 operator where he was and barely could give his name. he and his girlfriend both froze to death when there was a half a tank of gas and coats in their car. so tell me what's worse? when i'm drunk i still know the difference between cows and people and also know enough to put a coat on and stay in my car in a blizzard. i also know my name with out question. they coulda made it in the car til the next day when it warmed up and they were sober but meth messes with your mind in a differnet way all together. that's why it's illegal. weed makes you lazy and calm. if you get high you either sleep where you're sitting or if u aren't too high you just move slower which equals driving slower it also helps you concentrate if your mind wanders so technically can make you a safer driver. yet if you throw seeds they will grow where they land. unlike tobacco. so you wanna ask that question again? why wouldn't meth and hard drugs be illegal? even alcoholics can generally quit when they get pregnant (not saying all) but if they're hooked on meth or crack etc there's no stopping that baby in belly or not. i can't believe you compared those two at all.

Meth is much more addictive in a much shorter time span than alcohol, I myself know many recreational drinker but the people that I know that do meth are pretty messed up, it is also unhealthy in any dosage unlike alcohol which can actually be beneficial in moderation. Meth destroys teeth as well. plus The main reason liquer is legal is because it was and making it illegal won't work as we saw during prohibition. ciggarets would be illegal if the just came on the market today

Meth is illegal because of the VERY REAL damage it does to families. It's already cheap to make... and if it were legal, it would cost even less. So... the government COULD make plenty of money if they decided to legalize. I must say I find it intriguing that a 'social worker' could be so completely out of tune with the devastating effects of meth; it's completely surreal.

I was going to go on... but from reading & re-reading what you've written, it's clear that you are a meth user who is avidly trying to justify what you're doing.

You're destroying dopamine, destroying the very fabric of your character, destroying the hopes of those non-users that love you...

and as long as you're using, it'll get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

It's sad... you're in complete denial.

I tried to figure out a great way to answer your question, But its not needed, All you need to do is know someone who is hooked, See how someone looks after they have just slammed Meth, Watch as there heart tried to pump so much blood that in some cases it just exploded, And watch after the high wears off, going to find more. Its Illegal because it kills you. IF you were asking about Pot I would agree with you. But not meth.. No at all..

Drugs are illegal because if you look at the big picture, those doing drugs are doing them to avoid real life. I'm not talking about the occasional weed smoker that lights one up on vacation. I"m talking about the people who have very little success in life and soothe their failed hopes and dreams with the same junk that got them there. That's no way to live. And for this very reason, if the government was really concerned with getting drugs off the market they would mandate drug tests for welfare recipients. Serious drug abusers can not hold jobs because of the mental changes that affect their stress coping skills. If one had to pass drug tests to get welfare, no one would be selling their food stamps to get weed and what-not why their kids ate hot dogs and bologna sandwiches all month. Therefore, the drug dealers would have no one to sell to. Drugs are a horrible, devastating thing.

Unlike marijuana that shows little risks of addiction and health problems. Meth is a different story. Overwhelming studies of meth in rats have shown that they self administer after first dosage showing addiction potential. It also can permanently deplete dopamine receptors. Manufacture of methamphetamines release toxic amounts of phosphine gas (chemical responsible for meth labs of having a "fish" odor) and can pose significant environmental hazards. Often times methamphetamine may still contain traces of its toxic chemical precursors since meth is not often made by skilled and trained chemists. Unlike marijuana that only produces mild intoxication and passiveness, meth causes dangerous and aggressive behaviors. So if you want to get high don't go further than marijuana.

Aren't you the same person who was asking about marrying somebody who's in jail? Let me guess, your boyfriend got locked up for something drug related and it's easier to blame the government than to admit that he's a turd.
Alcohol is legal because it can be used in moderation and is, most of the time, consumed by responsible adults. There aren't many responsible, fully functioning Meth heads.

Edit: your Joe doesn't open a cold one because he's locked up.

My foster daughter is really missing her meth addicted parents...what do you suggest social worker? Make it legal so that she can go hungry again, be cold again, have a diaper rash so bad that it bleeds again. I'm sure she can't wait for it to be legalized so that she can go back to living in the motel with the pimp and the other druggies. Drunks suck too.
