How does Frank Zappa get the guitar sound on Apostrophe in songs like "Stinkfoot" & "Excentrifugal Forz?"

I am referring the that clipped, high-pitched tone. Is he just flanging the Christ out of it, or what?

Alot of people have tried to duplicate Frank's sound with limited success. He did things with his wah-wah pedal. He'd set it in a certain position and leave it there. I think Apostrophe and One Size Fits All especially are his finest guitar work.

I don't know those pieces, but I am pretty sure flanger does not affect the pitch, so that can't be the answer. I'll try to hear them & find your Q again.
