Why is it that nice girls tend to marry jerks, and nice guys seem to always marry total *itches? They have kids together, get divorced, and then try to marry someone nice the 2nd time around. Often the 2nd marriage produces no offspring... Is there some reason why the mean gene needs to be passed on to the next generation? What would happen if we all thought with our heads rather than our genitals and made a better choice the first time?

Happy - I didn't say 'all' nice people marry jerks the first time... some, like you, occasionally do get lucky. But, judging from most people I know, that is very rare...

oh, i know this! theres a little story that this really good manga artist did called "The ugly duckling"
rita was neither pretty nor ugly.
she never had a date B4.
one day, she started washing her hair, grew breasts, and ditched her glasses and got contacts.
all the boys thought they werent good enuff 4 her or that she already had a BF.
she started worrying, and thought she was hideous, she started hating men.
usually, after this point, either the crazy guy, the reject, or the egoist is the first to acknowledge a person like rita.
that's y nice girls end up with jerks.

lol, dont say that I got married 1st time around last June... my husband is not a jerk nor am I a *itch atleast I hope not... If I was Im sure he'd tell me my husband is all macho and he wouldnt stand a brow beating from me even though I am pregnant with our first child...lol

To put it very simplistically, primally men are dogs and men are golddiggers. Men are chemically predisposed to spread their seed as far and wide as they can. Also, displays of violence, dominance, (things we would tend to categorize as 'jerk moves') are all ways of posturing and persuading females that they have better chances for offspring survival. -This is all very readers digest version.
Females need protection and a safe haven to raise their offspring in order to ensure survival. So men who can provide for them (ie. money in this day and age) are more attractive.

actually it is evolutionary... scientists found that because of evolution, women like to have sex with (and cheat with) the bad guys, but marry the good guys. of course evolution isn't the only factor.
