I'm also considering the environment, school, compensation and wouldn't want to encounter 'culture shock' that's why as early as now I would like to do some research that would prepare me socially, psychologically and emotionally as a Special Education teacher. I prefer to teach kindergarten or pre-school students who has special needs.
What are the requirements as well? Guys, I need your opinion about this matter, your answers will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Based on average salary;

1. New York
2. California
3. Pennsylvania
4. Texas
5. Florida

But when you take into account the cost of living for these states, you could expect to "make" the most money in Pennsylvania.

When you get to the interview stage, make sure you inquire about support staff. Special Ed.is too challenging a task to go it alone.

Good Luck....

Every state has its own culture and requirements. I cant tell you which you should choose but i think i can help.

First, pick a climate... although it may not seem important, were you live affect how you behave, so if you don't like where you live, you will suck at you job and may even quit no matter how much you enjoy it.

Second, decide what type of school you want to teach... public/private, traditional/ year- round, preschool/ elementary, that type thing.

Third, look for things you like doing. If you like the mountain and white water rafting, look for a place you can do that at. You need things you can do in your spare time.

Fourth, population... simply, what size town do you feel most comfortable in.

Fifth, support... are you going to feel comfortable living thousands of miles from everyone you know or is that better for you.

Pretty much what I trying to say is figure out what you want out of where you live and the rest will fall into place.
