Just curious, if i have a nylon string acoustic guitar can i still play rock music on it? Would it really make a big difference if i used steel string instead?

You sure can play rock on a nylon string guitar. Just learn to play it first. It's not what you play, it's how you play it.

Rock on!!!

If you had a nylon string guitar and knew about guitars, you wouldn't put steel strings on it - it will damage it, plus the neck is different on a steel-string guitar anyway. You can play rock on a nylon-string, but that's not what it's intended for, like you can use a screwdriver to beat a nail into the wall, but the hammer is made for it.

I don't think it makes a difference to me. When you play rock music on an acoustic it doesn't really sound like rock. I'd suggest getting an electric or an electric-acoustic guitar. I have both an acoustic and rock music sounds so much better on the electric.

nylon is great for acoustic. although the sound is very very different.

steel strings are more aggressive and nylon is more reserved.

rock is played more on steel so yeah

You can play rock music on it, but it won't sound the same of course. I wouldn't try switching to the metal strings it won't do much for you. If you want that sound, you need an electric guitar and an amp.

apparently you are too young to remember when there was a show on called"unplugged"which starred rock and roll singers and bands without electric instrumentation.if i'm not mistaken it aired on mtv.
