Historically speaking, globalization or colonization by a stronger more powerful nation has typically been disastrous for the local culture. Most indigenous cultures have been negatively impacted, i.e. European settlers in North America and Native Americans "Trail of Tears", colonialization of South Africa by Dutch and Portugese peoples, etc. Generally speaking of course... the fight for resources and scarcity of those resources creates potential for exploitation of local cultures.

It has mainly negative impacts.
Off hand I can think of native art becoming more important (especially in the Arctic) as one benefit as southern art dealers encourage an expansion of that cultural facet to better their supply. However, negatives I can think of include loss of language due to outside media, hunting and trapping practises interfered with or stopped due to other culture's values, influx of outside goods replacing local goods (especially foods), outside religions destroying indigenous belief systems, etc.

Culturally, it's usually a disaster.
