Hi Guys,

I am new to linux.I forgot my Password plz help me in retrieving root password from linux(Fedora core 6) plz try to explain in step by step procedure

Well, normally I'd say you're SOL (not to be mean, but the lesson to NEVER forget your root password is usually much more valuable than any data a linux newbie would have stored on that partition). :P

But since tonight I'm feeling nice, check this link out - it's dealing with FC5, not FC6, but should work nonetheless.

There's no way to retreive a lost password, but you can reset it if you have physical access to the computer. Find a linux live cd like knoppix or a gentoo install disc and boot your computer with it. Mount the root partition on your hard drive, chroot into it and run passwd from inside the chroot.

Usually you have to pop in the install disk and do a reinstall of the system (without erasing what is in place).
