all you have to do is type -w in the properties of your shortcut so that it looks like this.

"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w
I normally run it like this
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -skiptobnet

this way it will skip the intro and just go to the log on screen for B-net. I can't remember if you can use them both at the same time...

google it, i'm sure there are plenty of programs out there for it. why do you need it in a window, if you want to minimize out of it i think ALT+TAB works for Diablo 2
