One is bad enough, but necessary for convenience. Put most of your money elsewhere - where it's actually safe. It's not safe in a bank, and safe deposit boxes are not safe.
Banks are pretty much for the naive and clueless, beyond keeping a small amount there.

Definately should open more than one bank account. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Think of it in other light, you can have an alternative bank to go to if you need money.
Worst case senerio is the bank you go goes bankrupt there may be sometime before you get the money. Also if one bank computer system is down, you can always use another banks.

It is good for a number of reasons but mainly with this day and age of identity theft, it is a good idea if you have someone steal your id and raid on account, you have another for safety. Of course anyone who experiences id theft should contact www.ftc.gov More about second bank accounts, also having a second one is good if one company wont accept your debit card Visa, you could have another one that accepts mastercard debit.

I think its great but, it depends on the purpose, first account should be for your personal requirement's and the second for saving and better you have to crash your ATM card, specially if you like to spend your money fast for nothing!
and for the first just make a list of requirement's what the real stuff you need for a particular time. I think you get my point.

When things got bad in my marriage. I opened an account (just in case) that he didn't know about. It was a good thing because when we did split up, he went in and took everything from our joint account.

Yes, open as many as you want and shop around.
If you don't like 1 service then you always have another one to go to.
Some banks offer better services than others and will even make your money work harder. Meaning you will get better returns on your money.

cause they are cracking down and don't want your business unless you are a "good" customer. new laws planned to force people to sign up with finance companies so banks don't deall with the riftraft. having two or more acounts with banks that branch ilots of cities (like chase etc. boa) could be handy if you havea run of bad luick.

its a great idea. I have three. Not only does it make it where you can hide money for other people, say food stamps, but you can hide money from yourself.
