I think as humans we love being the martyr. We don't want to believe that others understand exactly what we're going through and that they may see what we are too blind to see. And so we insist in not receiving their advise because we don't think they understand. After we do the stupid and suffer the consequences, we can sometimes see that they were right the whole time, and we try to help others before the fall, but of course they do the same dumb thing we did. It's kindof annoying, but that's how it often seems to work (thankfully not always--when we get older an wiser, I think we realize that others have wisdom, too, and so we don't fall into this trap as often). I'm banging my head against the wall because of my sister doing the same dumb thing I did, and it is the most frustrating thing in the world. Man, God must be the most patient being in the universe---that or he's gone insane because of all the stupid things his children are doing and not listening to him when he tells us how to help ourselves.

Life lessons learned the hard way are never forgotten, they are the ones that can hurt the most and stay with us the longest. So they in fact last us a life time.

i don't know. i would have said that people should just learn from others' experiences, but someone has to learn the hard way i guess... or else we wouldn't have anything but good experiences, which wouldn't make adults any wiser about life than little children.

we don't always learn from the hard way. sometimes we observe the consequences others have experienced and learn like that. The hard way often wakes us up and reminds us that we don't want to repeat it so we learn not to do what got is in the 'hard way' in the first place.

Experience is the best teacher.
We must make mistakes and suffer---apparently.
Yet, even in the difficult times--there is alot to be grateful for.
Be grateful for the ability to cope with the myriad of concerns that you deal with. Be grateful for being forgiving of yourself because, things didn't work out quite as you wanted.
If you try everyday, you'll find something no matter how small to be grateful for.

because when someone explains why not to do something, it has no effect on you ... it doesnt harm u in anyway so think, yeah whatver im still going to do it, how bad could it be, then u do it, and its all good, then things start turning bad and u FEEL the feeling yourself.
i dont know its hard to explain
i always learn the hard way, there is no other way in my book
