Mercury does not have much of an atmosphere unlike the Earth.
Like the Earth, Mercury has a core of Iron and Nickel which in both cases has given rise to a magnetic field. Mercury does have a larger core relative to its size than Earth. Why this is so is unknown, one possibility is that soon after the planets formed, a collision shattered Mercury so that it lost much of the material that overlayed the core.
Both planets are unlike the giant planets like Jupiter and Saturn which are mostly composed of Hydrogen and Helium. gas.

Well, the most obvious similarity is that they are round in shape, they are made out of rock and they revolve around the Sun anti-clockwise. (unlike Venus)

They are both children of the sun. Both spherical both containing rock and other minerals. The basic ingredients are the same but have been "cooked" differently and with different proportions.
