How do I clip the ends on my below ear not yet to shoulder hair so that it will be healthy?

my hair is very soft but thick and my ends are splitting. I can't find a salon to accomodate my hair so I have to do it myself. Can anyone provide insructions so I don't end up looking like I go into a fight with the the lawn mower?

DO NOT, I repete, DO NOT ever cut your own hair!!!! I am a hairdresser and I would never cut my hair, either.
Keep looking for someone in your town, or someone you can train, since it sounds like the hairdressers in your town don't know how to do your hair. Perhaps you could look in near-by town for someone with experience. Good luck.
