I had lasik done last July and my boyfriend had it done five years ago. He had described it to me and I didn't get really scared until the day of the surgery came. I thought of cancelling because I had the worst headache that morning because I was so scared. Yes, you do see the whole thing right before your eyes. They give you a valium before going in and the whole thing takes about five minutes. It doesn't hurt at all and is just somewhat frightening because this is the stuff you only see in movies, lasers in eyes, I mean. 100% worth it, I saw the difference within a few hours, it has changed my life and it is the best decision I've made in my life. I'm kicking myself for not having done it sooner. No more contacts, no more glasses. BTW, you won't freak because you know you can't do that so you'll just go along with what the doctor and nurse tell you to do.

I had it done 2002? I used to not be able to see people's faces without glasses or the TV. Now I am 20/20 and can drive and watch TV without glasses (myopia is cured). I just need reading glasses to read small print because of presbyopia (old eyes).
They were going to give me valium before the procedure, but when they found out I had worked the night before and had been up all day the day before (24 hours awake), then they decided I would be too sleepy on valium, so they skipped it and it went well...I could see very well soon after...
It was expensive with a $90 monthly payment plan...there are cheaper places, not sure about those...I went with Dr. Beran if you live in this area...PS...he gives you a teddy bear to hold during the procedure...

Many people have this concern, but in reality, LASIK is a pretty easy procedure for the patient. Just make sure you have an experienced and nurturing doctor and staff.

A close friend of mine just got it. It was expensive. Thousands of dollars worth of expensive. So I asked him, "Was it worth it?"
He says it was worth every penny, and I envy so much the fact that when he wakes up each morning he can see the room around him and I can't.
If you have the resources, get it. It may freak you out, but it is a one-time experience that will make every day thereafter so much better.
