Some people are born with what's called a vestigial tail. It's basically an evolutionary throwback and usually surgically removed at some point.
"The coccyx, or tailbone, is the remnant of a lost tail. All mammals have a tail at one point in their development; in humans, it is present for a short time during embryonic development. The tailbone, located at the end of the spine, has lost its original function in assisting balance and mobility, though it still serves some secondary functions, such as being an attachment point for muscles, which explains why it has not degraded further. In rare cases it can persist after birth and must be surgically removed."

It is true that all animals have a tail. Animals need a tail for encouraging body balance. Human beings have other body parts such as ears to initiate body balance and hence we do not require tails. Moreover our brain is highly developed and has a good sense for balance. So who needs a tail?

Gorillas lack tails. Nor do cephalopods.
Manx cats are almost tailless.
Do you wish you had a tail? It would just be inconvenient. Sometimes dung runs down the tails of cows. Imagine, sitting on a toilet. You'd have to take care not to let it get wet. And your britches might not fit properly.
But there are circumstances where it might be fun.

There is a movie called Shallow Hal. And a guy on there has a tail on his lower back. If you havent watched it, you should. Not just for the tail, but the movie is pretty funny too.

i know its so unfair.
i really want a tail...
especially a cats tail so that when i get cranky i can flare my tail it would be so good.
so that everyone knows that i am cranky and so they stay away
we have a tail bone, and some peoples are slightly longer than other peoples
there has been some cases of people been born wih there tail bone a cm or so more then a normal persons, and they have a slight "tail" but its hardly noticable
