Why doesn't the reading change on an alcohol thermomter when hung upside down?

Should gravity have an effect on the thermometer when hung the wrong way?

The glass is "vacuum" tight. If you poke a hole small enough to allow airflow, it would effect the alcohol.

It has the correction mechanism inbuilt.
