This would be a sloth. They have the ability to swim during floods, which is a common occurance during wet season in the tropics. They rarely venture to the ground, except to drink, urinate and defaecate - extremely slow metabolism, and would also be open to predation due to slow mobility.
Many are even found dead still in the tree!

What animal can not swim? As far as I know, every animal on earth can swim. From new born humans to birds to elephants etc., etc..
