Hi, thanks, I should say that I already have the mineral oil. I was wondering more about application? I mean, do I just squirt it on there and rub it in with a towel or what? THANKS!

Do not use cooking oil. It will go rancid and leave a nasty taste. There are several products you can use. I like a food grade mineral oil that seals the wood but will not affect the taste of the food. I use it on my butcher block island. I learned the hard way about cooking oil. Just goggle food grade mineral oil and it will come up. Just put a couple coats, rubbed in, and then a coat here and there to keep it fresh.
For application, you rub it in with lint free towel or rag. Don't try to load it up with one coat.Several light coats work better. Heavy coats take too long to dry. I know you know this ,but I have to say it anyway. Be sure it is food grade mineral oil. Don't want anyone getting sick out there.

Saturate the board with olive oil, vegetable oil ..Something edible. Do both sides. Let it puddle and wrap with kitchen towel. Let it sit for a day or so. This works for other wooden kitchen items such as wooden knife handles, wooden bowls, utensils, etc.

i would bleach the heck right out of it and clean it good with soap and water. then dry it really good, next i,d rub wax over it to seal the pores in like bee,s wax. the wax will also make your knife glide right through the meat without dulling it onto the wood.
