You dont have to attend community college first (you can skip it and go straight to a 4 year school), but I think it is a good stepping stone before you go to a 4 year school. The community college offers college level courses at high school class size. Also, its cheaper and will save an individual some money.

It depends on the individual to make that decision. Some people think its better for them to go to a community college and then transfer, while others feel that they can skip community college.

It depends on you. Most people ususually attend a community college because of its lower price tag, and to increase their gpa because of their high school grades in the past. Then transfer to a four year university. Other chose to attend a community college so they can be able to learn at a slower pace, and get ready the next level which is the four year college.

I'm not sure I would say it is important for everyone. Some do it for financial reasons, but take caution , as I know in our local community college, 85% of the transfers fail their major classes because they were ill prepared. Either one can be good, but be sure to know what you want and what is good for you. My daughter needed a smaller school, she is reserved, I went to a college of 22,000 and loved it, but I am very out going. Also at large universities, often classrooms can have like 100 students and you can't ask questions

I didn't take this method, but my daughter will next fall. Her reasons are that she decided to graduate high school a year early, so she will take the math and science that she would have taken her senior year, as well as some other core subjects. She also thinks it will give her a year to prove her grades (although she is an A-B student anyway). She thinks it will give her another year to transition to the huge lecture hall style classes, which can be overwhelming to some and I believe that it is easier to tranfer to a major university from a community college than straight from high school.

I chose community college first for several reasons. First, it's cheaper, by credit hour and for books. Also, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do and having a place to get the basics required for any bachelors was nice. The class sizes are also a lot smaller. It really just depends on what you're used to and what you're comfortable with.

I don't know about important, but it will save you money.
See a counselor at the school you want to transfer to. (I had bad experiences with community college counselors). There is an entire office for transfer students. Go there and get all the info you need.
