if you can handle the ridicule of wearing the shoes with the platform in the front, get those
i got those when i was a sophomore in highschool, and within 3 months of doing the workout they recommended i had added about 5 inches to my vertical.. i used to be able to put a girls ball in without a problem, and with a good start i could put a men's size in.. but im only 6 feet and im white (not sure if that matters, but it certainly doesnt help i dont think)
and you will get crap from people, expect it.. at least i always did, but i certainly didnt when i was jumping over them : )
otherwise just get a jump rope and do that everyday for about a 1/2 hr to an hr

you need to develop your calf muscles.
try getting on your tippy toes and lower your heels down to the floor and lift them back up again. then just balance yourself on your tippy toes for like a minute.then repeat the first part.
