Depends on why you're playing. If it's just to have fun, then I say catcher(if it's slow pitch) or right field. If you want to compete then play third base or short stop. You'll be the most involved. Pitcher if it's fast pitch might be a little more involved, but lets face it, there aren't any Nolan Ryan's out there dominating a game. Most batters try to get as much power as they can into a hit, and end up either popping up or getting on top of the ball and sending it to the left side of the infield. Personally I grew up playing second base and center field, so those are my loves. If I really want to win though, I go play third base and play almost even with the bag. Sometimes that is a little nerve racking though as some batters turn on a ball pretty hard, and there's no grass to slow it down. All in all, nobody is going pro so really it's about where you enjoy playing the most.

I played softball and baseball through lowerschool and middle school now im in a very good baseball team in my school i also play softball for my school. I play first base in baseball and short stop in softball. First base gets most of the balls because no matter where the ball goes, most of the times, they have to pass it to first base. To be first base you need the folllowing skills; catch well, bat at a average better than .300(it looks better). Now short stop, i love the position because i like the sport and want to participate anytime i can and since the ball is slow the batter ussualy swings early hitting the ball to the left side if right handed. Since the ball is slow, it sinks faster, baseball batters will hit the top of the ball sending it to the thrid base men or SS(shortstop). SS doesnt need good batting skills but would be good if you could catch a grounder, line drive or a pop fly. The diving stuff comes in a sudden burst of excitement or anger. I suggest these positions for people who are like me and would like to be busy throughout the game. If you dont want to participate then you could choose center field because in soft ball its harder to catch the right timing so you either hit it early or late, left or right(for right handers). If you are starting softball for the first time then you should go for catcher. Catchers just needs to catch the ball after one bounce. They seldom have to catch a throw from out field and when it is from out field, they wont be strong. All this info is only based on my experience and was very useful to many of my friends but it isnt always the ebst for you so the final decesion should be made after you see a game, play the position once and knowikng your skill. GOOD LUCK AND HOPE YOU DONT COME UP AGAINST ME IN ONE OF THE GAMES!!!

I would say pitcher because its more easy to pitch softballs than baseballs. Plus as a pitcher, you throw the wind-up way.

Pitcher. Because if you manage to strike someone out in slow pitch softball, that is the greatest glory you can have.

the pitcher, because the pitcher is the most active person on the ballfield whether it be baseball or softball

I always liked left center field for the action.Catcher is cool if you want action but don't like to run.3rd is good if you can take the Hot Shots.

First base because you get in on most of the action and you also get to converse with the other team when they get on base
